Hi, I’m Paloma!

I’m a professional translator, and I’m glad to meet you

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. If you are looking for the linguistic services of a professional translator who loves languages, you’ve come to the right place.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself

Roots

I have lived in Madrid all my life, although my roots are scattered around the world. Half of my family is from Chile, the other half from Andalusia, and there is also a bit of Galicia in me. But my accent couldn’t be more “madrileño”!

Passions

That said, I’ve always enjoyed words, ever since my mother read me stories when I was little, and I would take the book away from her so I could read it myself. My passion for reading continued with the El Barco de Vapor books, and I’ve continued to read everything related to fantasy and fiction that came my way.

Similarly, another of my passions is video games. Ever since I first got my hands on a Game Boy Pocket, I haven’t stopped playing, from PlayStation classics to those addictive mobile games.

Hobbies

My hobbies also include movies and TV series. I love watching them both dubbed into Spanish (thanks to the incredible audiovisual translators and voice actors) and in their original language. This passion for linguistic nuances is what I bring to my professional life.

What I studied and where I’ve worked

Early years and interests

In high school, I began to realize how good I was at languages. In fact, English and Spanish were my favourite subjects. Later, the list grew when I studied Ancient Greek and Latin in the Humanities program in high school. But I didn’t stop there. I went on to study Italian at the Official School of Languages, and now I’m into Japanese!

University education

So, from a very early age, I knew I wanted to study languages, and that’s what I did. In 2013, I got my Bachelor’s Degree in English Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid. And as soon as I graduated, I was able to combine two of my great passions: languages and video games. I started working as an SEO content writer and was responsible for writing reviews and analyses of video games and software in both English and Spanish

Specialised training

But I really wanted to specialize and focus on the technical side of professional translation. Thus, in 2016, I completed my Master’s Degree in Translation and New Technologies: Software and Multimedia Product Localization at ISTRAD and Menéndez Pelayo International University. There, I learned about the professional localization of software, video games, websites, and mobile apps, as well as other essential skills such as project management, subtitling, and post-editing (MTPE).

Project management

After completing my master’s degree, I worked as a project manager for two years. So, to all my fellow project managers: I understand you and your world perfectly! I heartily applaud all project managers!

Independent translation

However, I missed the creative process of translation and professional writing. I wanted to be the one on the other side of project management. That is why, in 2018, I embarked on my adventure as a freelance professional translator. And, to further hone my skills, I completed a course in Style Editing that same year.

Professional translator, proofreader and copywriter

This training helped me master all the details of Spanish, my native language, which has allowed me to excel as a professional proofreader. Since then, I have worked as a professional translator, proofreader, and copywriter with language service agencies, platforms, and companies around the world.
